I'm so freakin' excited. I can't believe
I finally won one. October 11, 2006 21:46 hrs
I sure hope I win this time. Getting
tired of losing. 18 hrs to go... Isn't that puppy in the last post just the cutest thing you've ever seen? I sure think she is. They say Border Collies are the Einstein of the dog world. Based on how well she has me trained, I'd say that's an accurate statement. I saw a frightening thing on the highway today. Unfortunately—in spite of the fact that I passed it twice—not once did I get a picture of it. Cute little red sporty car pulled off to the side; half on the concrete shoulder, half on the grassy verge. The hood was flipped all the way up, and resting parallel with the windshield. The question is, did it assume that position while the vehicle was in motion on a stretch of road where the speed limit is 70 mph (egads!) or upon checking the engine to perhaps see some obvious cause of breakdown, did the careless driver leave the hood ajar only to have the horrendous winds we had today send it askew? Either scenario adds up to one big fat bummer! The reason I passed it twice is because I was on a mission. Trip one was to the post office in sleepy Wamego which I followed up with a stop at the Shurfine grocer so that I wouldn't have to eat the same left-overs three nights in a row. Trip two was a return to the grocers to exchange the moldy Portobello mushrooms for some of a more recent vintage. And now that I think of it, I passed the darn car four times without recording it for posterity. I really need to get back into committing to taking my camera everywhere. I got sort of lazy in that time period where it was one great big hassle to download while my 'puter was out of commission. I've finished a couple of books and watched some movies which I might review at a later date. I'll just quickly say don't waste a penny renting Friends With Money. It wasn't really bad, it wasn't really good, it just wasn't really anything but a waste of 90 minutes. I'll finish this entry with a new tidbit I'll call Ask me a question... Back in the October 4th entry comments, I was asked the color of my eyes. The official document issued me by the great state of Kansas lists them as HAZ. Hazy? Not for 9 years, 3 months and 20 days. Hazardous? Only if you stare deeply into them without blinking. No, HAZ stands for hazel, although that must be modified with the word blue. I read once of a character who's eyes were labeled faded Norwegian blue and if there was room on the license, that's what I'd have to put. The eyes are changeable. I have a picture from a trip to Hawaii where the deep indigo ocean can be seen in the background and damned if my eyes aren't the same deep indigo blue as the sea. I've had days when they looked pale gray, baby blue, lapis blue, green and even brown. Factors that impact what color they appear to be are: amount of light, light source, color of clothing worn, color of hair, color of skin (summer tan vs. winter's fish-belly pale) and, of course, the amount of sleep I attained the night before. In the picture that prompted this question, my opinion is that my eyes look like the color of a 1968 Mercury (12745 - Caribbean Blue Poly). Anticipating the question, "Which Mercury", it's the '68 Cougar GT-E. Used to baby-sit for a lady that had one (13357 - Nordic Blue Poly). She was a hottie and so was her car. The same person asked other questions and those answers are:
October 08, 2006 20:33 hrsMy dog is not lazy, just smart. Why strain the neck and the back? October 05, 2006 20:46 hrsI had a miracle happen. Somewhere between reformatting my XP machine and having to configure the firewall all over again for the network router. Somewhere between cleaning up the WinMe machine and cabling it directly into the router and configuring that firewall I've managed to get the XP machine to see files on the Me machine and the Me machine to let it! This is a big hallelujah folks. I haven't been able to get my camera to download to the XP pc since the reformat and have been transferring them to my work pc and then to CD to bring home. While this method has the plus side of forcing me to have a copy of my pictures somewhere other than the hard drive, it is sort of annoying for those times when I want to post a picture right now, dammit. The camera downloading works on the Me machine, but the CD isn't burning. Now I don't have to worry about it at all. I'm sure there will come a day when the Me machine will go to that big UNIVAC in the sky, but by then I'll be ready for a new desktop with the latest & greatest of OS and other assorted software. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, I bring you pictures of what's going on in the yard:
